Dr. John Saunders, FTSE: Executive Chairman
Dr.
Saunders has wide experience in the private and public sectors,
covering high-level investment advice, business development and
project structuring through to financial close in Australia, Europe
and Asia.
Career highlights include:
- Negotiating the engineering, procurement and construction contract by a Chinese consortium for a 750 MW hydro project in Nepal for a major Australian hydro developer.
- Leading the development of a 500,000 tpa hot plate rolling mill in Vietnam designed by the German engineering group Ferrostaal, with equipment supplied by a Chinese consortium of CMEC, MECC and Shougang.
- Structuring a consortium of three Australian and three Chinese companies which designed and constructed the Hanoi National Stadium.
- Coordinating the Australian Federal Government and NSW State Government approvals for the third runway at Sydney International Airport.
- Advising on the engineering, construction and financing of the Dampier to Perth, North West Shelf gas pipeline.
- Pioneering government policy for Public-Private Partnerships for infrastructure development in Australia.
Further achievements and current roles include:
- Chairman of the Linden Group Pty Limited, Sydney Gas Limited, Mosaic eCommerce Solutions Pty Ltd, Carbon Pool Pty Ltd and the Sydney Film School Pty Ltd.
- Chairman of the Asia Pacific Council of the Macquarie University.
John is the former:
- Investment Coordinator General for the Government of New South Wales.
- Deputy Managing Director of the Australian Trade Commission.
- Chairman of the Western Australian Energy Policy and Planning Work Party.
- Special Adviser to the State Energy Commission of Western Australia and a member of the Joint Committee for the North-West Shelf Gas Utilisation.
